What is Myofascial Release & Yin?

Updated: Sep 13, 2023

I get asked this question A LOT

When I first heard of Myofascial Release & Yin back in Nov, 2019. I was like 'Myo What'?

I knew what Yin Yoga was, holding a pose that targets the connective tissue to increase flexibility and mental strength while calming for the mind. But what's Myofascial Release? I decided to give it a try.

After that 1st class, I fell IN LOVE with Myofascial Release & Yin. We used different props to help release tension in my body. Since I was training for a triathlon, it was kind of intense in certain areas! BUT... my body felt SO GOOD after!

Once I got my Yoga Teacher and my Triathlon Coach certificates, I knew I had to study this 'magical yoga'. During the pandemic, I finished a 50hr Myofascial Release course and I am currently enrolled in another 200-hour Myofascial Yoga Teacher Training!

Enough about me. Let's get back to the question...

What is Myofascial Release? Simple short answer - use specific props to apply gentle pressure in the restricted tissues, to reduce pain, and tension and restore your full range of motion.

Why do you need Myofascial Release? Let's face it, life is hard on our bodies. You might have back pain, shoulder pain, tight hips. etc. If you are a triathlete like me, you can probably list more areas of discomfort! Myofascial Release will help you release the tension and discomfort in your body.

Why add Yin Yoga and not just use the props? Once we release those restricted tissues, holding a Yin pose will stretch out that space, open the body and increase blood flow. All these promote freedom of movement, and bring relief and relaxation in the body, and who doesn't want more relaxation in our busy lives?

Now you know what is Myofascial Release & Yin Yoga. Want to give it a try?

I have regular In-Person and Online workshops. Do check them out.
